June 30, 2026 — last day to export files from Codeanywhere.

Migration guide →

Codeanywhere shutdown · July 1, 2026

Codeanywhere is shutting down. Here is what to do.

The service goes offline on July 1, 2026. Your export window closes June 30. This page explains exactly what is happening, what you need to save before the deadline, and where your workflow can continue.

What to export before June 30

Once the shutdown date passes, there is no recovery option. Go through this list now, not the night before.

Project files and source code

Download everything not already in a Git repository. Use the Codeanywhere file manager or SFTP to pull down project directories.

Environment variables and .env files

Hidden files and environment configs are easy to miss. Open each workspace and check for .env, .env.local, and similar files.

SSH keys and credentials

If Codeanywhere stored SSH keys for you, export them now. You'll need them to reconnect to your servers from your new tool.

Database credentials and configs

Note down any database hostnames, usernames, and passwords stored in your workspace or project config files.

Server connection details

Record all server hostnames, IP addresses, ports, and usernames — anything you will need to reconnect from a different tool.

Custom scripts and automation

Any deploy scripts, cron setups, or shell scripts created in your workspaces — export or copy these manually.

Do not leave this until June 30. Export now and verify you can open everything locally or in your new workspace before the deadline.

Frequently asked questions

When is Codeanywhere shutting down?
Codeanywhere goes offline on July 1, 2026. The export deadline — your last day to download files and workspaces — is June 30, 2026. After that date, access to workspaces, files, and credentials stored in Codeanywhere is permanently closed.
Why is Codeanywhere shutting down?
Codeanywhere has not published a detailed explanation. The announcement cited a business decision to wind down the service. New signups were closed before the shutdown announcement, and existing users were given a export window.
What happens to my files if I don't export them in time?
After July 1, 2026, file access closes permanently. Codeanywhere has not indicated that files will be archived or recoverable after shutdown. Export everything — projects, hidden config files, environment variables, and SSH credentials — before June 30.
What is a good replacement for Codeanywhere?
It depends on how you were using Codeanywhere. If you used it to manage real SSH servers — VPS, staging, production — ServerDesk is a direct replacement. If you were spinning up containers for development work, tools like GitHub Codespaces or Gitpod may also be worth evaluating.
Does ServerDesk work like Codeanywhere?
ServerDesk connects to your existing SSH servers rather than provisioning cloud containers. If you had a server behind Codeanywhere, you bring that same server into ServerDesk in minutes. You get file browsing, terminal, editor, Docker management, database explorer, deployments, and AI assistance — all browser-based.
Is there a Codeanywhere discount for ServerDesk?
Yes. Use code CODEANYWHERE at checkout for 50% off the first 3 months on any paid plan. Valid for new accounts only, expires July 1, 2026.
