PTY Terminal

Real persistent shell sessions without leaving your browser

The ServerDesk terminal is a full PTY session over SSH — not a command runner or a limited web console. Run interactive programs, keep sessions alive, split the terminal alongside your editor, and work exactly as you would in a local terminal.

Capabilities

What you can do

Full PTY sessions

Real pseudo-terminal over SSH. Interactive programs, vim, htop, and bash scripts all work as expected.

Split terminal views

Open multiple terminal panels side by side — run a build in one, tail logs in another.

Terminal profiles

Save connection profiles with preferred shell, working directory, and startup commands.

Colour and Unicode support

Full 256-colour and UTF-8 support for syntax-highlighted output, emojis, and styled CLIs.

Session persistence

Terminal sessions survive page refreshes and reconnect automatically when connectivity drops.

Side-by-side with editor

Dock the terminal in the bottom panel or float it beside your open file so code and output stay visible together.

Use cases

When teams use this

  • SSH into a VPS and run deployment scripts without a local client
  • Tail error logs in one pane while editing the affected file in another
  • Run interactive tools like vim, htop, mysql, or python from the browser
  • Keep a long-running build or test suite visible while doing other work

Concrete workflow

One realistic way teams use this feature

  1. Step 1

Open the terminal on the active server and validate the path or service state with read-only commands first.

  2. Step 2

Split the terminal so logs stay visible while you edit the related file or watch a deployment run.

  3. Step 3

Reconnect if the network drops and use Robbie to explain any log or command output that needs interpretation.
