Connections, SSH, and SFTP
Connecting a server with SSH or SFTP
Create, test, and save a working SSH or SFTP connection in ServerDesk.
Connection details
You need a server name, hostname or IP address, port, username, authentication method, and the root path you want ServerDesk to open by default.
Connection test checklist
Use the built-in connection test before saving. A passing test confirms the host is reachable, the credentials are accepted, and the root path is valid for the selected account.
- Confirm the SSH port, usually 22 unless your host uses a custom port.
- Use the exact username provisioned on the server.
- Set the root path to the project or account directory you expect to manage.
If the test fails
Most failures come from wrong hostnames, closed ports, expired passwords, incorrect key pairs, or servers that allow shell access but do not expose the SFTP subsystem needed for file browsing.
