Connections, SSH, and SFTP
Understanding SFTP in ServerDesk
Learn how ServerDesk uses SFTP for file browsing, uploads, downloads, and safe file operations.
What SFTP does
SFTP is the file transfer protocol ServerDesk uses to list directories, open files, upload files, download files, and persist file edits. It is separate from shell access even though it often uses the same server credentials.
Why SFTP matters
A server can accept SSH commands but still block or misconfigure SFTP. In that case terminal access may work while the Explorer cannot browse folders or save files.
How to verify it
If Explorer cannot load folders, check that the server allows SFTP for the selected user, that the root path exists, and that the account has permission to read and write in the relevant directories.
